Anne Barge Fall 2020 Bridal

“Good design is timeless.” That’s the Anne Barge philosophy—a sentiment that rang true when the brand staged its 20th anniversary fashion show on Thursday with a Fall 2020 Bridal collection inspired by their all-time best-sellers. Union West’s raw industrial space and exposed pipes were strung with crystal chandeliers painted in stark white and black (the latter being Barge’s favorite color, which also informs her personal all-black, all-the-time uniform).

Barge – who was perched on the front row – carved out a space for herself by catering to brides who crave a classic look, oftentimes sprinkled with contemporary twists. Since taking the helm in 2014, Creative Director and President Shawne Jacobs has continued Barge’s legacy with aplomb. “Our bride is feminine yet sophisticated—the perfect combination of timeless and classic, but with a modern side,” Jacobs said. Not unlike the 31 looks making up the multifaceted lineup that gave a new era of brides’ fabulous options for every event on the getting-married calendar.

Take the off-the-shoulder tuxedo mini with oversize buttons that would be a perfect fit the bridal shower. Or the tailored jumpsuit with a draped peal harness and a Deco vibe—ideal for cutting a rug on the dance floor at the reception. Ditto for the bridal ballet flats paired with a silk-crepe column boasting full sleeves and draped cowl back.

The flashes of restrained elegance rounded out a collection rooted in tradition. See the princess-style dress with signature split-V bodice and a full skirt newly rendered from floral-embossed jacquard. The pièce de résistance came at the finale when a lace ballgown glided out—trailed only by a Cathedral-length veil stitched with deconstructed flower buds, the petals cascading down its entirety. It was just the thing to signal the bouquet of celebratory white orchids (Barge’s favorite perennial) presented to the bridal monarch to mark the moment.
