“I always loved the red carpet and wanted to bring that same fantasy to bridal,” said designer Andrew Kwon, whose debut Reminiscence Collection proposed an exquisite new vision, delivered successfully with ample confidence.
While Kwon focused on hues of white, this was not your typical wedding gown lineup. The designer removed some of the more constructed and meringue-y elements typical to bridal and instead opted for more languid, fluid silhouettes with a more casual, effortless vibe. The romance – of which there was plenty – came via layering, ruffles, and pretty details. Case in point, the Aurora, a modern-day goddess gown held together by hand-braided soutache straps, and the stunning Hera dress featuring a soft corseted bodice that cascades into a tulle fantasy replete with hand-made 3D floral embroideries. “I would hope the Andrew Kwon woman is every woman, but she is definitely a woman who understands detail and appreciates craftsmanship,” he put it.
The short film hit the perfect note. It featured Kwon in his atelier speaking to his bridal vision, then showed each individual look on a model in motion. In the process, the new talent’s vision crystallized beautifully – “ladylike but spirited,” he put it. “You can feel the joy that radiates in her life through the clothes she wears.” Mission accomplished – and beautifully so.
