Just in time for the first snowfall of the season – and it’s snowing pretty heavily looking out of the CFDA windows right now – Swarovski unveiled its Star for the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree on Thursday morning. This year’s Swarovski Star was designed by Daniel Libeskind. The famed architect and Nadja Swarovski, Member of the Swarovski Executive Board, revealed the piece during a ceremony at Rockefeller Plaza, and the star is now topping the iconic Christmas Tree, which will officially be lit on Nov.28.

The star, at 900-pound star is 9-foot 4-inches, has 70 spikes covered in 3 million Swarovski crystals.

Libeskind was inspired by “the beauty of starlight – something that radiates meaning and mystery into the world,” he said. “The Star is a symbol that represents our greatest ambitions for hope, unity and peace.”

Nadja Swarovski echoed similar sentiments, adding that the Star “brings joy to New Yorkers and visitors from around the world, and will shine as a beacon of hope for many years to come.”

The Star is not the only facet of the Swarovski-Libeskind collaboration. There’s also a Star Boutique pop-up shop on Rockefeller Plaza, which the architect designed. It offers jewelry, ornaments and gifts from Swarovski and Atelier Swarovski, and more.

The piece de resistance is the exact replica of the Swarovski Star on display giving people a chance to study the masterpiece up-close.

Here’s to a dazzling holiday season!
