FABSCRAP is a textile recycling non-profit working to end commercial textile waste since 2016. FABSCRAP has been collecting fabric excess from the New York City fashion and design industry, sorting it for recycling or reuse, and providing the local community with an affordable resource for designer fabrics. We currently serve over 550 businesses in NYC, including clothing brands, independent designers, costume departments, fabric companies, tailors, and universities.
Through FABSCRAP, designers can find two solutions. First, we can act as an avenue to sustainably source fabric and notions for their brand, collections, and/or products. Our Reuse team works closely with brands and designers to find materials that work for them, whether it’s through making an appointment at our Brooklyn Warehouse, ordering with our Online Store, or scheduling a virtual appointment. There is a variety of materials that come on fabric rolls, smaller pieces ranging from 1-3 yards, trims, real and faux leathers, and embroidery. Given the nature of how we receive fabrics, there is always a unique variety of materials available.
Additionally, FABSCRAP can act as a recycling service for designers in New York City who wish to find an ethical solution to their design and production waste. Through our Service team, we work with designers to arrange pick-ups and drop-offs, where we then can sort through material that they wish to recycle.
