CFDA Exclusive: Accessories Spotlight
Eugenia Kim evolved from an earnest Parson’s student designing hats to cover up a “bad hair day,” to one of the most directional contemporary milliners in the Fashion industry today. A winner of the CFDA Award for Accessories Design, Kim is lauded for implementing traditional methods of blocking and trimming in avant-garde designs. Her coveted aesthetic ranges from the classic to the quirky, famously creating the felt “bob haircut” cap that graced the pages of every major fashion book from Vogue to ELLE within one season. Jumping from the page to the street, Eugenia Kim is a sought-after favorite among the street style set, topping some of the savviest style set’s most watched figures in her wool-cat ear and woven military caps.
For Fall 2013, Kim’s collection culls inspiration from “bold and glamorous women,” as the designer refers to rich textures, materials, and jewel tones. Wide-brim fedoras with gold hardware and leather cording along with a range of alpaca newsboy caps, round out the collection of reimagined classics. In a season that heralds the return of the hat, Eugenia Kim tops the list of this Fall’s most covetable extra.
