CFDA Exclusive: Accessories Spotlight

From a club kid selling vintage jewelry in New York’s St. Marks Place to collaborating with fellow CFDA members, Jason Wu and Michael Kors, Alexis Bittar created a cool-girl empire of fine and costume jewelry. A winner of the CFDA Fashion Awards Accessory Designer of the Yeat award in 2010, Bittar’s aesthetic is influenced by the designer’s childhood – surrounded  by antique jewelry, as well as his edgier, downtown Manhattan days. One quality is constant: Bittar still employs his signature use of hand-carved and hand-painted Lucite – a trademark talent that launched his career and launched his collection onto the shelves of Bergdorf Goodman in the early ‘90s.

Today, Bittar has four stand-alone boutiques in New York, one in Boston, and another in Greenwich, Connecticut. His vanguard ad campaigns range from comedic, featuring the characters from Absolutely Fabulous, to timeless advertorials with supermodel Lauren Hutton. No stranger to the glossies, Bittar’s pieces are a mainstay in fashion editorials, his numerous credits include the covers of French Vogue and Vogue Italia.

For Bittar’s Fall 2013 collection, delicate opulence is the theme du jour. Looks range from a set of thin bracelets encrusted with faceted Swarovski crystals to a needle loop torque necklace. Watch our: these crystal-gilded pieces will be the icing on many fashionavle wrists and necks this season, in true Bittar fashion.
