Award Sponsored by L’Oréal Paris

The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) is pleased to announce the introduction of The Popular Vote Award sponsored by L’Oréal Paris. For the first time, the public will be able to cast votes for their favorite men’s and women’s designers from May 27th to June 9th at The winner will be announced on-stage on June 15th 2009 at the CFDA Fashion Awards, generously underwritten by Swarovski, taking place at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center.

The online site, hosted by Women’s Wear Daily, features looks from nominees for the CFDA Fashion Awards in the Womenswear Designer of the Year, Menswear Designer of the Year, Swarovski Award for Womenswear, and Swarovski Award for Menswear, as well as approximately 100 other CFDA members who have shown their collections during New York Fashion Week. Ballots can be cast for any additional designer in the write-in field available on the site.

“We’re thrilled to add the Popular Vote Award to the CFDA Fashion Awards,” said Steven Kolb, CFDA Executive Director. “This new Award enables the public to really get involved with the Awards and voice an opinion as to their favorite designer. Anyone can win this. Fashion has become such a pop culture phenomenon so we are pleased that L’Oréal Paris is helping bring the voice of the people to the Awards.”

The Popular Vote Award coincides with the tenth anniversary of the Women’s Wear Daily special CFDA Fashion Awards issue (publication date: June 9). As in previous years, a portion of proceeds from advertising sales benefit the CFDA Foundation, the CFDA’s not-for-profit organization which raises funds for charity and industry organizations.
