Joseph Altuzarra has a propensity for exquisite detail and an uncanny ability to seamlessly combine refined and rough elements to any piece.
After training under Marc Jacobs (nominated for a 2013 CFDA Fashion Award for Womenswear) and a stint assisting Italian design virtuoso, Riccardo Tisci (ahem, this year’s CFDA Fashion Award recipient of the International Award) Altuzarra launched his namesake label in 2008. In recognition of Joseph’s talent and thriving career ahead, he was awarded the 2012 Swarovski Award for Womenswear. And, with the 2013 CFDA Fashion Awards approaching this Monday, we thought it was especially apropos to sit down with the designer-extraordinaire and chat about this year’s CFDA Fashion Awards.
What’s been your most memorable CFDA Fashion Awards Moment?
It has definitely been celebrating with my family, team, and loved ones after my wins, since being part of the Awards has always been so surreal.
What are you wearing to this year’s Awards?
Trusty suit and tie. I’m usually not fussy. I’m always more excited about working with my date on what she will be wearing!
What do you derive inspiration from?
It comes from all over. Usually, it’s a mix of travels, what I’m reading, music that I’m listening to, women that I meet. Films play a big role in most of the collection, as well.
Do you have a routine you follow pre-Awards?
Since it’s close to the Resort season, I’m likely to be busy prepping for either the Lookbook shoot or the presentation!
Any last words about the CFDA Fashion Awards?
Congrats to all the nominees and honorees. Best of luck on the big night!
