The CFDA hosted its 3rd annual Fashion Education Summit beginning on January 9, 2014. Faculty from 17 of the CFDA’s Participating Schools gathered at the CFDA for a presentation by Scott Hahn, CFDA Member and co-chair of the Sustainability committee, who gave an overview of the Sustainability Apparel Coalition’s Higg Index. On January 10th, guests of the summit reconvened at the Andaz Hotel for the day. A panel of past CFDA Scholarship winners (like Lauren Sehner and Sydney Halela) joined us for the morning’s panel discussion, where they shared their experiences of working on the scholarship competition throughout senior year, graduating, and finding their first job in the fashion industry. For the afternoon session, new educational initiatives that the CFDA has in place for 2014 were discussed with faculty. Those initiatives, which will benefit both current students and alumni, included the new criteria for our 4 Scholarship Programs, CFDA+, Avenues to Industry and several more ways to increase the dialogue between industry and academia.
