Phoebe Philo is truly an international designer. Born in Paris and raised in London, she studied at the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London before moving to Paris. In Paris, she worked with her classmate Stella McCartney at the French label Chloe. After McCartney left the label to strike out on her own, Philo was named creative director of Chloe and under her guidance, the label expended its ready-to-wear and accessories offerings. Philo chucked it all in 2006 to move back to London, giving birth to her second child in her downtime.
In September 2008, Philo triumphantly returned to the fashion industry, taking the helm of Celine as the creative director. And though her label is based in Paris, Philo lives in London with her family.
