Phillip Lim did not set out to be a fashion designer. While studying finance at California State University of Long Beach, he quickly realized was less on the bottom line and more on the hem line. After an internship-turned-design assistant job with Katayone Adeli, Lim launched Development and after four years, he left the West Coast for New York to launch 3.1 Phillip Lim. He launched menswear in 2007 following his raison d’etre of making beautiful clothes with added touches of madness, striving towards the imperfection.
