Fortuny y Madrazo: An Artistic Legacy

Fortuny Queen Sofia

CFDA members enjoyed a private tour of Fortuny y Madrazo: An Artistic Legacy at the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute by former CFDA president Oscar de la Renta. The exhibit, conceived and curated by Mr. de la Renta, analyzes the work of celebrated Spanish artist and designer Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo (1871–1949) in the context of the family of artists from which he  descended. CFDA designers were enthralled with the rich colors and exquisite pleating of the ensembles, for which Fortuny was known. CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg was reminded of her Fortuny dress that mysteriously disappeared and lamented that such a beautiful dress was most likely stolen.
