CFDA Spotlight: Kimberly McDonald

For Kimberly McDonald, CFDA member since 2010, the seeds of fine jewelry design were sown early in life, underscored by a deep appreciation for Earth’s natural beauty. Childhood memories of rock collecting at her home in North Carolina were the catalyst that in later years led McDonald on a quest to find natural gem-stones and transform them into exquisite, wearable pieces. With a design sensibility for unique composition and a perceptive eye for color and quality, McDonald has acquired a following of accessory lovers worldwide.

September 2012 marks an exciting milestone for McDonald. Coming off the successful launch of Kimberly McDonald Home and Kimberly McDonald Vintage, collections of unique and one-of-a-kind pieces for the home, McDonald readies to open her first freestanding brick and mortar Kimberly McDonald boutique in Los Angeles this October.

“People keep asking if I had planned to open my own store all along, truth is KMDLA evolved slowly and organically.” McDonald said. “My main focus has been on product development, growing the brand and working with our fantastic retail partners.” As for why she opted for Los Angeles, McDonald said – “We also have a wonderful client base on the West Coast and access to the entertainment industry also factored in the decision.”

And Hollywood is ready. McDonald, who is credited with countless editorial pieces and red carpet moments, has a bevy of Hollywood’s leading ladies and men wearing her iconic pieces. From Cameron Diaz and Kate Hudson to Madonna and Jennifer Lopez, the celebrities have embraced her brand with open arms. Even the First Lady, Michelle Obama has sported her jewels.

“I have been fortunate to have been given the opportunity to dress some of the most talent and beautiful people in the world.” McDonald says of her celebrity fans and clients.

The Kimberly McDonald boutique will open this October at 8590 W. Sunset BLVD in West Hollywood. The boutique will carry the full KMD line along with KMD Home and KMD Vintage. For more information visit
