On Wednesday, August 6, the {FASHION INCUBATOR} designers were given an exclusive tour of BARNEYS NEW YORK, led by three of the store’s top executives: Tom Kalenderian (GMM, Men’s), Tomoko Ogura (Senior Fashion Director), and Jennifer Sunwoo (GMM, Women’s.)  The designers were given important retail advice, ranging from product assortment – and aiming to give the consumer a less compartmentalized experience and a more positive shopping environment, that includes uniting men’s and women’s goods into one section in some cases. “We want our product to be directed to the customer, for the customer, by the customer” says Tom Kalenderian. “A lot of people will tell you that you have to use this font in that color, and that’s how you’ll define your brand, but I’m telling you—they’re wrong,” Kalenderian advised the designers. “It’s all about the product. It’s the product that has to be the hero, and the product that will define you.”

The tour concluded with a luncheon at FREDS, where the designers were also joined by Chief Operating Officer and Senior Executive Vice President Daniella Vitale and Matthew Woolsey (EVP of Digital.)
