2012 Nominee for:
SWAROVSKI AWARD FOR ACCESSORY DESIGN
2008 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Finalist
Irene Neuwirth was born and raised in Los Angeles. Her natural creative ability was a birthright from her mother, a painter, and her entrepreneurial spirit was inspired by her father, a businessman. Irene began designing jewelry as a hobby in college, using raw, unmanufactured gemstones in new and unusual ways. She began to sell these one-of-a-kind pieces and the demand quickly grew. In 2000, she created a small collection that was immediately bought by Barneys. In the past decade, Irene Neuwirth jewelry has emerged as a leading, independent jewelry brand, recognized by its uniquely modern and sophisticated designs. Irene’s collections are widely anticipated season to season by a fashion-forward and discriminating clientele, who have come to expect a line that delivers a precise balance between timeless, collectable jewelry and the ultimate statement in modern luxury. The jewelry has generated tremendous editorial attention and is worn by some of the most beautiful women in the world. Today the collection is modern and timeless, with an element of edge and surprise. In April of 2011, Irene launched a Diamond Collection with Barneys, an important step for the brand as well as a platform for her to challenge herself creatively and explore a new arena working with finer stones. The collection has grown in size considerably and is still designed and produced entirely in Los Angeles.
In 2008, Irene was a finalist for the coveted CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund, the pre-eminent honor for young American fashion designers. In 2009, she became a member of the CFDA.
A Moment with Irene:
When you found out you were nominated you… were landing in New York for the nomination event at DVF’s studio. My dear friend and colleague made me go, “just in case.” My office sent an email that Steven Kolb had called and I nearly jumped out of my seat. My heart was racing all the way into the city.
My first job in fashion was… THIS ONE!
Starting out in the fashion industry was… challenging and so exciting!
One of the few times I have been star struck was when I met… Iman. I mean, the woman is an icon.
Success for me is… growing each of my accounts this last season.
I look for inspiration… in travel, in color.
The last three books I read… The Marriage Plot, A Visit from the Goon Squad, and yes, The Hunger Games.
I always… kiss the plane before we take off.
My words to live by are…. Get a labradoodle!
