A Moment with Jean Michel Cazabat

After spending more than a decade as a buyer, product developer and creative director in both Paris and New York, French-born shoe designer Jean Michel Cazabat founded the Manhattan-based label that today bares his name in 2000. Here, the designer, who is known for his flirtatious rock and roll-inspired styles for both men and women, takes us on a tour of his downtown studio.


What did you require/ desire when designing your studio space? How did you want it to look and feel, and why?

To feel the colors of the brand identity with Napoleon Blue , Red and Gold.

What is your most treasured possession in your studio?

Some very nice vintage shoes .

What is your favorite phrase?

Let’s do it !!!

Which American designer do you most admire?

Ralph Rucci and Olivier Theyskens.

During crunch time, what is your favorite place to order delivery from?

If I’m in NY it is a Lunch Box from Republic but most of the time I love to cook a plate of pasta .

What is your favorite sound?

Gimme Shelter from The Rolling Stones.

Is your studio in New York? If so, what is your favorite place in NYC?

All of Downtown . I just get high walking the street of Soho early in the morning on my way to the gym . The same at night I love the feeling of Soho .
