On January 18th, the Council of Fashion Designers of America held the 2nd annual Fashion Education Summit. The Education Summit was designed to bring together faculty members from the (21) Participating Schools and select CFDA members and industry experts who are actively involved in CFDA’s Educational Initiatives to talk as a group about the challenges educators face and discuss how the industry might support the academic process. CFDA President, Diane von Furstenberg, CFDA Members Sam Shipley and Michelle Ochs and Industry Experts from Derek Lam, Diane von Furstenberg and J. Crew joined over 50 fashion design faculty members from around the country to discuss portfolio and job interview preparation. The afternoon session was an open discussion amongst the educators, who shared their thoughts on ways they could better prepare students to meet ever-changing industry expectations, followed by suggestions for how CFDA can help to supplement their efforts.
